Breguet 14 B2 (Pegasus Teil 1)

Cool, da bin ich stolzer Besitzer des AZ model Bausatzes für die Breguet 14 B2 und werde ihn dennoch nicht bauen, zumindest noch nicht jetzt. Wie dass? Im letzten Moment vor dem Auspacken habe ich die Bemalungsoptionen des Bausatzes gesehen und der Bausatz wanderte wieder ins Regal. Ich will, will, will aber die Version mit "Lèon" an der Seite, die die der Pegasusbausatz beiliegen hat!

Dann hats doch geklappt. Im Hobbyladen um die Ecke; nach einer Stunde U-Bahn; aus zweiter Hand der Pegasusbausatz mit den richtigen Schiebebildchen und zum halben Preis bekommen. Um jetzt ganz schnell ans Ziel zu kommen könnte man ja einfach den AZ model Bausatz bauen und mit den Pegasusschiebebildern ausstatten. Aber irgendwie tat mir am Ende der Pegasusbausatz leid und ich denke, das mit etwas Aufbesserungsarbeit auch daraus ein vorzeigbares Modell werden kann.

Also auf auf zum fröhlichen Basteln. Ausgepackt kommt der Pegasusbausatz mit seinen wenigen Teilen recht spartanisch daher und erinnert von der Teilezahl start an die WK 1 Bausätze von Revell (ausser der neune Fokker Dr.I). Höhere Anforderungen entstehen durch die Metallteile und das Zurechtschneiden der Flügelstreben. Doch das sind nur die offensichtlichen Sachen. Nun denn, zu Hilfe kommen der Breguet 14 Datafile Special, Jane's Fighting Aircraft of the World War I und Davillas und Soltans French Aircraft of the First World War. Letzteres bietet sehr umfangreiche Risszeichnungen und bringt gut etwas Aufklärung in die Typenvielfalt der Breguet 14.

Nach dem Auspacken und Anschauen beginnt das Basteln dann richtig mit dem Zersägen verschiednener Teile um nur noch mehr Teile zu produzieren. Somit wurden in einer ersten grossen Aktion Seiten-, Höhen- und Querruder herausgesägt und die Sägekanten mit Plastmaterial aufgefüllt und ausgeglichen. Interessant bei der Breguet 14 ist, dass der Unterflügel soetwas wie Landeklappen besass, die durch Gummizüge wirksam wurden. Somit sind diese bei abgestellten Flugzeugen immer abgewinkelt. Also sind diese dann auch noch ausgesägt worden.

Well, I am the proud owner of the AZ model kit for the Breguet 14 B2 and will still not build it, at least not yet. How that? Quite before unpacking, looking at the painting options on the backside of the box, the kit went back on the shelf. I really want the version with Lèon on the side which comes with the Pegasus kit!

Finally I got lucky! In the hobbystore around the corner (after one hour subway) I got second hand the Pegasus kit for halv of the normal price. It would be easy and fast to build the AZ models kit using the Pegasus decals. But somehow I felt sorry with Pegasus kit and with some efforts it may be built into a quite presentable model.

Let's go model. Unpacked the Pegasus kit comes quite spartan with its few parts and reminds in the number of parts the early WWI kits from Revell (except the new one of the Fokker Dr.I). The skill level rises because of the metal parts and the uncuted strut material for the wing struts. But those are just the obvious things. Well then, you will need some help from literature as the Breguet 14 Datafile Special, Jane's Fighting Aircraft of the World War I and Davillas and Soltan French Aircraft of the First World War. The latter offers very extensive plan drawings and brings some enlightenment in the variety of types of Breguet 14.

After unpacking and careful looking and planning the action begins with the sawing off of various parts only to produce more parts. So I cut the elevators and ailerons. The sawn edges were padded with plastic material. It is interesting for the earlies Breguet 14 that the under wing had some kind of rubber driven landing flaps. So they are always bent on parked aircraft. Finally I cut off those flaps too.
